Why convert AVIF to PNG?

PNG is universally supported but 3–5× larger than AVIF. Convert AVIF → PNG when: a downstream tool doesn't accept AVIF, you need lossless output for editing, or you're preparing a print asset. Transparency is preserved perfectly.

Does PNG really produce smaller files than AVIF?+

For photographic content, yes — typically 25–50% smaller at equivalent visual quality. For content already optimized in AVIF (icons, small graphics), gains may be modest. The tool preserves the original when the encoded result would be larger.

Is transparency preserved?+

Depends on the target format. WebP, PNG, AVIF, and TIFF preserve alpha losslessly. JPEG has no alpha channel — semi-transparent pixels get composited over a background color you choose. The tool warns before flattening.

Does anything leave my browser?+

No. Codecs run as WebAssembly directly in your tab. Open DevTools → Network while dropping files and you'll see zero requests fire. That's why HEIC, unreleased designs, and confidential client work all stay private.
