Headers and footers for any PDF

Six slots (top L/C/R + bottom L/C/R) with text, macros for date/filename/page number, and section-specific overrides.

Professional documents need headers and footers with metadata — author, date, filename, page number. The Rankato Header/Footer tool gives you six independent slots per page (three top, three bottom), each with text or dynamic macros. Common patterns are one-click: page numbers in the footer center, filename in header left, date in header right.

Six independent slots

Top-left, top-center, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-center, bottom-right. Each accepts text and/or macros. Common preset: filename top-left, section title top-center, page number bottom-center.

Dynamic macros

{page}, {total}, {filename}, {date}, {time}, {author}. Combine with plain text: Page {page} of {total}.

Section overrides

Different headers per range: pages 1-3 get the TOC header, pages 4+ get the body header. Useful for long documents with chapter-specific metadata.

Tool FAQs

Everything you need to know about using Add PDF Header & Footer.

Does my PDF get uploaded to a server?+

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib and pdf.js loaded as WebAssembly. Open your browser's Network tab while processing and you'll see zero uploads — your PDFs never leave your device. That's why confidential contracts, tax records, and internal docs are safe to run through this tool.

Do headers respect existing content?+

Yes — headers are drawn in a top margin area outside the original content bounds. If your source PDF has content in the extreme margins, headers may overlap; adjust margin size to fit.

Can I process multiple PDFs at once?+

Yes — batch mode is available on the Pro plan. Free users process one file at a time. Pro unlocks unlimited concurrent PDF processing across every tool in the suite.
